Nathan Redmond has left Sheffield Wednesday after a short spell at the Championship strugglers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former Norwich City and Southampton winger joined the Owls<\/a> in November on a short-term contract.<\/p>\n

With 276 Premier League appearances to his name, Redmond<\/a> arrived at Hillsborough with a depth of experience in top-level football.<\/p>\n

However, he played just 132 minutes of football across seven matches for Wednesday<\/a> in all competitions and did not make a single start.<\/p>\n

Redmond picked up an injury during his early days at the club and is now a free agent.<\/p>\n

Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen told The Star earlier in the month that the 31-year-old\u2019s contract would expire on January 26<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And four days after the end of the deal, Pedersen revealed that he now has a position to fill in his squad.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have Redmond, where we\u2019ve signed no new contract, so we have this spot [to replace],\u201d he said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a really good conversation with him, and we agreed that we needed to see the time and how much he played. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think on Tuesday we spoke, and I told him that I couldn\u2019t promise him anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Redmond\u2019s career before Wednesday move<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A product of the Birmingham City academy, Redmond made the first of 82 senior appearances at the club in 2010.<\/p>\n

He completed a move to Norwich three years later and was key to their promotion back to the Premier League in the 2014\/15 season.<\/p>\n

Redmond later made a reported \u00a310million move to Southampton in 2016 and spent six years at the club, scoring 30 goals and assisting 27.<\/p>\n

The winger was part of the Saints squad that reached the 2016\/17 EFL Cup final, where they lost 3-2 to Manchester United.<\/p>\n

During his time on the south coast, Redmond made his one and only appearance for the England national team.<\/p>\n

He came off the bench for Adam Lallana during a 1-0 friendly defeat against Germany in 2017.<\/p>\n

Upon his departure from Southampton in 2022, Redmond made the move to Turkish giants Besiktas for one season.<\/p>\n

A return to English football came with Burnley and despite injuries, he helped them win promotion to the Premier League last year.<\/p>\n

Wednesday relegation woes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 2025\/26 campaign has been particularly difficult for Wednesday as they are all but confirmed to be relegated to League One.<\/p>\n

Points deductions for going into administration<\/a> and breaching EFL rules have left them rock-bottom of the Championship table.<\/p>\n

Wednesday sit on -7 points and 37 points adrift of safety with 18 matches left to play.<\/p>\n

Although relegation is set to be confirmed in the coming weeks, fans can have some cause for optimism over the future of their club.<\/p>\n

Their administration has brought an end to the chaotic tenure of owner Dejphon Chansiri, who oversaw many financial problems.<\/p>\n
