Manchester United have issued a statement after Sir Jim Ratcliffe\u2019s controversial comments on immigration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Devils co-owner has been heavily criticised for remarks he made in an interview with Sky News.<\/p>\n

Ratcliffe<\/a> said the United Kingdom had been \u2018colonised by immigrants\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is among those to condemn his statement.<\/p>\n

The British billionaire has since apologised for \u2018offending some people\u2019 with his comments.<\/p>\n

United statement<\/h2>\n

United<\/a> have now issued a statement of their own amid the reaction to their co-owner\u2019s controversial language.<\/p>\n

The club said: \u201cManchester United prides itself on being an inclusive and welcoming club.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur diverse group of players, staff and global community of supporters, reflect the history and heritage of Manchester; a city that anyone can call home.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince launching All Red All Equal in 2016, we have embedded equality, diversity and inclusion into everything we do.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe remain deeply committed to the principles and spirit of that campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are reflected in our policies but also in our culture and are reinforced by our holding of the Premier League\u2019s Advanced Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the course of this season, we have participated in events and initiatives at our men\u2019s and women\u2019s games marking mental health, LGBTQ+ inclusion, No Room for Racism, violence against women and girls and homophobic chanting.<\/p>\n

In a statement, United say they pride themselves on being an \u2018inclusive and welcoming club\u2019[\/caption]<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also celebrated our supporters\u2019 clubs\u2019 events, including our Disabled Supporters\u2019 Association\u2019s Christmas Party and our Jewish Supporters\u2019 Club\u2019s Chanukah event.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the weeks and months ahead, we will be supporting further initiatives in these areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis all sits alongside the incredible work which the Manchester United Foundation undertakes in and around Manchester on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cManchester United reflects the unity and resilience of all the communities we are so privileged to represent. <\/p>\n

What did Ratcliffe say?<\/h2>\n

United\u2019s statement follows criticism from fan groups towards Ratcliffe\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n

Ratcliffe has been criticised for saying the UK has been \u2018colonised by immigrants\u2019[\/caption]<\/p>\n

In an interview with Sky News, the 73-year-old said: \u201cYou can\u2019t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, the UK has been colonised. It\u2019s costing too much money. The UK has been colonised by immigrants, really, hasn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/p>\n

He apologised for his language in a statement of his own on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ratcliffe said: \u201cI am sorry that my choice of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe and caused concern but it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The INEOS chairman completed his purchase of a 25 per cent stake in United two years ago.<\/p>\n
