deal with England[\/caption]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/sport\/football\/team\/113289\/england-football\/\">England<\/a> first earmarked him as their head coach for the 2026 World Cup, with their first match coming <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/football\/3798356\/england-scotland-2026-world-cup-full-schedule-stadiums\/\">against Croatia<\/a> on June 17.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/who\/thomas-tuchel\/\">Tuchel<\/a> has extended his stay for another two years.<\/p>\n<p>He will take charge of two major tournaments with England being co-hosts at list to become their next permanent manager.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The FA could announce the decision as early as Thursday before the 2026\/27 Nations League draw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very happy and proud to extend my time with England,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have had so much support from Mark [Bullingham, FA CEO], all my memorable World Cup qualification campaign as they won all eight matches in their group.<\/p>\n<p>England scored 22 goals and didn\u2019t concede a single goal themselves as they stormed to another major tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Their next matches come during the March international break with friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>England then <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/football\/3977455\/england-world-cup-base-camp-friendly-fixtures-confirmed\/\">face New Zealand and Costa Rica<\/a> in two final friendly matches before commencing been good, but against sides that you would expect England, with the players they\u2019ve got, to beat in qualifying et cetera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one defeat they had was in Nottingham, at home to Senegal in a friendly, and so you\u2019re still wondering if he\u2019s got what it takes at tournament level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, to give him a new contract does seem, on the face of it, a little bit weird.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I would say is this, though, if you go into the World Cup with his future not tied down, him not knowing what he\u2019s doing straight after the World Cup, is there potential there that he could be having conversations through his agent, or directly with clubs, who might want him after the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes that jeopardise our World Cup campaign?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gabby Agbonlahor then asked: \u201cShouldn\u2019t there be pressure of like, \u2018Come on, we haven\u2019t won a trophy in so long, you win it or you\u2019re out, simple as <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven what Gareth Southgate did with England and how far he took England, Thomas Tuchel, I think, knows by now that we\u2019ve been to two finals, been to a World Cup semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe knows he\u2019s got this job, a short-term contract initially, to go and win the World Cup, that\u2019s it.
