Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he often has to use a wheelchair due to his past injuries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ferdinand<\/a>, who retired from professional football in 2015, admitted that issues picked up during his career are impacting him now.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand has admitted that he has been forced to use a wheelchair due to his injuries in an interview with Men\u2019s Health<\/figcaption>PA<\/figcredit><\/figure>\n

Ferdinand played nearly 800 games for club and country<\/figcaption>Getty<\/figcredit><\/figure>\n

The 47-year-old played over 700 games as a footballer, with over 500 of those appearances coming in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His career spanned 20 years and he spent time playing for West Ham<\/a>, Leeds<\/a>, Man United<\/a>, Queens Park Rangers<\/a> and England<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But during his successful years at United, he was sidelined on multiple occasions with back problems \u2013 and they\u2019re still impacting his life.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand and his family moved from England to Dubai last year, but he\u2019s had to spend some of his time in a wheelchair since.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a bad back for a long time,\u201d Ferdinand admitted when speaking to Men\u2019s Health UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got injuries that I had from my career\u2026I was on tablets and injections for six years to play games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s affected me. I get some bad moments of back pain where I have to be in a hospital for a couple of days or in a wheelchair for a couple of days. It\u2019s mad, but it just comes out of nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI\u2019ve been seeing a physio for the first time since I retired. He\u2019s been doing loads of manipulations and whatnot.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd within his building, there\u2019s also my personal trainer, so he feeds him information about my training.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a holistic approach to what I\u2019m doing now and hopefully that\u2019s going to put me in good stead.\u201d<\/p>\n

In great shape<\/h2>\n

The impact of his past injuries hasn\u2019t prevented him from staying in shape though, as he showed off his incredible physique.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand has featured in Men\u2019s Health UK\u2019s latest magazine and it includes multiple pictures of his impressive body.<\/p>\n

His wife, Kate, has also featured in the latest Women\u2019s Health UK.<\/p>\n

He has discussed how finding out more about how to look after his body has helped him, rather than just using injections and the like to prevent his injuries when he was playing.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand said: \u201cRather than fixing when it\u2019s broken, you actually prevent [injuries].<\/p>\n

Why did Ferdinand move to Dubai? <\/h2>\n

Despite his troubles with his back, Ferdinand has been enjoying life since leaving England and his job at TNT Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He explained to Men\u2019s Health UK: \u201cI look at it like an adventure.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy life has been governed by the fixture list while playing football and then, post-career, being a pundit. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere aren\u2019t many opportunities in life where you get time to make a big change, have an adventure, step out of your comfort zone and explore something new. <\/p>\n
