Tottenham have been urged to \u2018change the culture\u2019 at the club by axing captain Cristian Romero.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The defender has three years remaining on his deal but has come under fire for his ill discipline once again.<\/p>\n

Spurs have been told to offload Romero in the summer to \u2018change the culture\u2019 at the club[\/caption]<\/p>\n

Romero was shown his sixth red card<\/a> since joining Spurs against Manchester United on Saturday.<\/p>\n

It was also his second in the Premier League this season after two yellow cards in their loss to Liverpool in December.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Argentine will now face a four-match ban, missing the fixtures against Newcastle, Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n

Martin Keown admits Spurs<\/a> should now consider emulating Arsenal\u2019s handling of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang\u2019s exit.<\/p>\n

The former Gunners captain was stripped of the armband for \u2018disciplinary reasons\u2019 by Mikel Arteta in December 2021.<\/p>\n

Aubameyang was then allowed to leave for Barcelona on a free transfer just a month later.<\/p>\n

Spurs told to axe Romero<\/h2>\n

Discussing Romero\u2019s future on White & Jordan, former Arsenal star Keown explained: \u201cWe sat here and argued about Aubameyang a few years ago and I was trying to defend him because I thought, \u2018ok, let\u2019s keep the player at the football club\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe you\u2019re cutting your nose off to spite your face and there may be a feeling about this with Romero right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut actually if you want to change the culture of that football club, and there\u2019s a serious problem with the culture at that football club, maybe this is the one to say, \u2018do you know what? He doesn\u2019t play for our football club again. We\u2019re making a change.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI know he\u2019s a big commodity and it\u2019s a gamble but it\u2019s a change of direction and a change of culture because I would say, if you see this on the outside, on the inside it\u2019s even worse.<\/p>\n

Arteta stripped Aubameyang of the Arsenal captaincy before showing him the exit door[\/caption]<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the inside, his behaviour around the players is not good for the next generation and therefore big decisions have to be made around this player. He\u2019s at a crossroads in his career.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Arsenal defender added: \u201cI think this guy is a top player but there\u2019s something there that sparks and he\u2019s off the pitch.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can\u2019t continue. He has to make that decision otherwise he walks at the end of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Romero<\/a> was named Spurs captain by Thomas Frank in the summer along with signing a new deal through to 2029.<\/p>\n

However, he has since struggled to keep his head on the pitch after a second red card of the campaign.<\/p>\n

The World Cup winner was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Casemiro at Old Trafford on Saturday.<\/p>\n
