Update: Ronnie Busick has been sentenced to 10 years of prison time, with 5 years of probation for the murder and kidnapping of Laura Bible, Ashley Freeman, and her parents. This closes a long chapter in a family\u2019s search for closure but the case will never truly be closed until the bodies of Laura Bible and Ashley Freeman are found.
\nVinita, Oklahoma, is a small rural town in Craig County. On December 29, 1999, local teenager Ashley Freeman turned 16. It was a night of celebration for her parents and for her best friend Lauria Bible. Lauria\u2019s father, Jay, recalled the last time he saw his daughter:
\n\u201cLauria, she said to me, \u2018Daddy, is it all right if I spend the night with Ashley in the Freemans\u2019 home?\u2019 I said, \u201cWell, just make sure you\u2019re home by noon tomorrow.\u2019 And, noon tomorrow didn\u2019t happen the way it should\u2019ve.\u201d
\nThat night, the Freeman family\u2019s home was set ablaze. Leaving only the remains of Ashley\u2019s parents, Kathy and Danny Freeman. The police began looking into homicide after it was discovered the parent\u2019s cause of death was not the fire but was actually a shotgun blast to the head.
\nThe bodies of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible are yet to be found.
\nMany years later, progress was finally made in the case with the charging of Ronnie Busick. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of arson. He has since signed a plea deal with prosecutors to serve a prison sentence of 10 years with 5 years of probation. Although the Bible family wishes Ronnie would have gotten a stronger sentence they are happy to finally see Busick behind bars.
