{"id":4052,"date":"2026-02-05T09:59:22","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T08:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.infotekps.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/05\/soludos-wife-urges-parents-to-embrace-measles-rubella-vaccination\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T09:59:22","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T08:59:22","slug":"soludos-wife-urges-parents-to-embrace-measles-rubella-vaccination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.infotekps.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/05\/soludos-wife-urges-parents-to-embrace-measles-rubella-vaccination\/","title":{"rendered":"Soludo\u2019s wife urges parents to embrace measles-rubella vaccination"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Ikenna Obianeri<\/p>\n<p>The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has officiallyflagged off the Measles-Rubella vaccination in the state, reminding residents that vaccination remains one of the most effective ways for protection against diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Rubbella is a variant of measles, with a significant threat to children from nine months to 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>The vaccination exercise, which took place at Iruzu Primary Health Centre, Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area, on Wednesday, officially marked the state-wide administration of the vaccine to children across the state.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is run in partnership with national and global partners, including the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and other key counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the ceremony, the governor\u2019s wife, who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluchi Ibezim, stated that vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect Anambra children, quietly, safely, and, most importantly, early.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cToday marks the official flag off of the Measles-Rubella vaccination in the state. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect our children, quietly, safely, and, most importantly, early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome children may have mild reactions after vaccination; a little fever, some crying, slight swelling, but be reassured that while those signs would pass quickly, what should concern parents more is allowing the preventable disease to take hold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is to reassure parents and caregivers that health workers who would be taking part in the exercise are trained and prepared for the task. Support systems and referral sites have been effectively put in place to deal with any concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor\u2019s wife also appealed to stakeholders, including parents, local government mayors, schools, and religious leaders, to assist in making the programme a success by ensuring that over 98 per cent of children in Anambra State are vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, the Zonal Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Samuel Obasi, noted that Measles and Rubbela remains one of the major threats to child health in Nigeria, but with the state government\u2019s strong commitment to health, there is assurance that the vaccination programme will achieve massive success.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, the Zonal Coordinator of the World Health Organisation, Dr Chimuanya Igboekwu, explained that Measles and Rubella share almost the same symptoms, making individual vaccinations for the sicknesses incomplete without covering both.<\/p>\n<p>Igboekwu assured all that WHO and other partners are solidly behind the state government to ensure full coverage in all the 326 wards in Anambra State, targeting about 2.7 million children across markets, churches, schools, worship places and even hard-to-reach communities in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In their remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, and the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Chisom Uchem, explained that adequate monitoring and supervision have already been put in place to ensure that all stakeholders are effectively mobilised to achieve maximum coverage in the programme.<\/p>\n<p>PUNCH Online in October 2025, reported that as Nigeria joins the global community to mark the 2025 World Polio Day, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged nursing mothers to immunise their children against polio, measles, and other childhood killer diseases.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Copyright PUNCH<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>All rights reserved.
