Swindon Town have been booted out of the Vertu Trophy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an EFL statement, the Robins<\/a> were expelled due to \u2018breaches of EFL Regulations and EFL Trophy rules\u2019.<\/p>\n

Ian Holloway\u2019s club has been immediately booted out of the tournament<\/figcaption>Rex<\/figcredit><\/figure>\n

\u201cThe Club has also been issued with a fine of \u00a340,000, of which \u00a320,000 will be suspended and which will be automatically payable if the Club fields or names on a team sheet an ineligible player before the end of the 2026\/27 season,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The breaches are related to when Swindon fielded two ineligible players<\/a> against Luton Town in their Vertu Trophy round of 16 clash on January 13, which the Robins won 2-1.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Club played Oliver Clarke, who was serving a seven-game suspension from the Football Association,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, Aaron Drinan, who started the second half of the tie, was not named on the official team sheet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarke had been suspended after being found guilty of committing highly violating acts of foul play<\/a> on two separate players when Swindon played Cardiff City last August.<\/p>\n

As a result, Luton<\/a> have been given a spot in the Vertu Trophy quarter-finals, where they will face Plymouth Argyle.<\/p>\n

The clash was initially scheduled to be played on February 10 but is set to be contested on a different date following a request from Plymouth on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In a club statement, a \u2018deeply disappointed\u2019 Swindon fired back at the EFL\u2019s decision but vowed to \u2018reflect\u2019 on the incident.<\/p>\n

Swindon\u2019s statement on instant exit<\/h2>\n

\u201cSwindon Town Football Club is deeply disappointed by the Independent Disciplinary Commission\u2019s decision to remove the club from this season\u2019s Vertu Trophy,\u201d the Swindon statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe strongly believe this outcome is unfair and do not agree with the findings. <\/p>\n

News of Swindon\u2019s expulsion comes days after Robins manager Ian Holloway delivered an all-time spray<\/a> in the direction of FA officials in regards to Clarke\u2019s ban.<\/p>\n
