Stakeholders in the Niger Delta region have expressed discordant opinions over the attempt by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stop the impeachment process against the Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu by the state House of Assembly.<\/p>\n

Report has it that President Tinubu had instructed the Minister of the federal capital territory, FCT, Barr Nyesom Wike to prevail over the Assembly lawmakers to drop the impeachment threat on the governor and allow peace to reign in the state.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the development, the chieftain of the pan Niger Delta Elders Forum, PANDEF, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe said the President\u2019s position over the Rivers state political crisis was confusing, adding that \u201cif I were the governor of Rivers state, there is no way Wike, a minister, would be a political leader of the state\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sara-Igbe noted that the President cannot see \u201cevil\u201d and pretends that all is well in the state. \u201cWe are not in military dictatorship and Rivers people are not happy with what is happening in the state. All politicians are selfish and President Tinubu is only interested in his 2027 re-election ambition\u201d.<\/p>\n

The former security adviser to Rivers state government stated that \u201cwhen Wike was a governor, he never went to late Muhammadu Buhari for anything, why then should he be disturbing Sim, making him to be going to Tinubu every time for help concerning the political crisis in the state?<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Tinubu is a smart politician who knows what he wants and goes all out for it\u201d said Joseph Ambakaderimo, convener of the south-south reawakening group, SSRG, and the chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT, of the community committee of oil and gas producing area of the Niger Delta states.<\/p>\n

Ambakaderimo who was pleased with the President\u2019s move to salvage governor Fubara from another round of impeachment, cautioned that Tinubu \u201cshould be very careful about those pushing him against the FCT Minister, Wike\u201d, adding that \u201cWike is to Tinubu what late Tony Anenih was to former President Obasanjo\u201d.<\/p>\n

He alleged that Fubara has no capacity to garner the number of votes Wike got for Tinubu in 2023. \u201cIt is only Wike and Fubara that can settle their problems. Not the President, not nobody else. I believe that the position the President has taken is for the overall good of Rivers state and its people\u201d.<\/p>\n

On his part, the chancellor of the international society for social justice and human rights, IJSJHR, Dr. Jackson Omenazu who also described President Tinubu\u2019s move on Rivers politics as a smart step, said the President\u2019s type of politics should be reviewed for proper understanding.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we go by the manifesto of the APC, there is no position for two leaders in the same state. Why can\u2019t Fubara be the political leader of Rivers state? Is this what is happening in other states where APC is in charge? APC leadership at the national level should not sit on the fence in this case\u201d.<\/p>\n

Omenazu observed that the law of equity is completely absent in Rivers state, saying that \u201cgovernor Fubara is highly subjugated. Tinubu\u2019s action is not very presidential. He was a governor before. Wike was also a governor. Were they treated the way they are treating Fubara today?<\/p>\n

The rights activist noted that only the national chairman of the APC has the legal right to declare who is a political leader in a state, not the President.<\/p>\n
