Wolves are hoping to get a deadline day deal over the line for Marseille midfielder Angel Gomes, talkSPORT understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Premier League<\/a>\u2018s bottom club want to sign Gomes on loan it would also include a buy option.<\/p>\n

The midfielder moved to Marseille<\/a> last summer on a free transfer after leaving fellow Ligue 1 side Lille.<\/p>\n

Gomes, who departed Manchester United in 2020, featured heavily at the start of the season under Roberto De Zerbi<\/a> but has recently slipped down the pecking order.<\/p>\n

The transfer window closes on Monday at 7pm.<\/p>\n

Out of favour<\/h2>\n

The 25-year-old has clocked up just eight minutes of action across Marseille\u2019s last six league games.<\/p>\n

He was omitted completely from the matchday squad in Saturday\u2019s 2-2 draw with Paris FC.<\/p>\n

And minutes are likely to be even harder to come by after the arrival of Ethan Nwaneri<\/a> from Arsenal who went on to open his account for the club <\/a>on his Ligue 1 debut.<\/p>\n

Ready for a dogfight<\/h2>\n

Wolves look to lure Gomes to Molineux to help the club in their fight against the drop.<\/p>\n

The Midlands side are 17 points adrift of safety with survival looking like a tall order.<\/p>\n

But the possibility of adding Gomes\u2019 skillset and expertise can only provide a boost to a Wolves side that has shown a shimmer of hope in recent games.<\/p>\n

Gomes had been linked with multiple Premier League teams including Manchester United<\/a> and Newcastle before eventually moving to Marseille.<\/p>\n

The midfielder has cemented himself as one of Ligue 1\u2019s brightest talents and that was rewarded with a call-up to the England squad in 2024.<\/p>\n

He performed admirably in four outings for the Three Lions under interim boss Lee Carsley.<\/p>\n

However, he is yet to receive a call-up under current head coach Thomas Tuchel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His lack of game time is unlikely to help his chances of making the World Cup squad with time running out to impress the England boss.<\/p>\n

One way of doing so could be to secure a move back to the Premier League in the hope of catching Tuchel\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n

Gomes has never shied away from the idea of returning to English football.<\/p>\n

He said in an interview three years ago: \u201cDo I imagine myself coming back one day? Obviously, it\u2019s home.<\/p>\n
