Liverpool are exploring a move for Lutsharel Geertruida before Monday\u2019s transfer deadline, talkSPORT understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Geertruida is currently on a season-long loan at Sunderland<\/a> from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Geertruida has played 17 times for Sunderland this season<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

However, discussions are now taking place about ending the 25-year-old\u2019s time at the Stadium of Light in order to send him to Anfield.<\/p>\n

talkSPORT understands Liverpool<\/a> are looking at a loan for the rest of the season as defensive cover.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands international has made 17 appearances for Sunderland this season, with seven as a starter.<\/p>\n

He is capable of playing as a right-back, centre-back or a holding midfielder.<\/p>\n

Geertruida is someone who Arne Slot<\/a> knows well too, having played for three seasons under the current Liverpool manager at Feyenoord.<\/p>\n

talkSPORT also understands this opportunity was brought to Liverpool rather than the Reds actively seeking it. Talks are ongoing heading into Deadline Day.<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s defensive issues<\/h2>\n

Arne Slot\u2019s options at the back have been ravaged by injuries this season.<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s two recognised right-backs, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong, are both out with injury.<\/p>\n

Depth at centre-back is also an issue with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk the only fit pairing right now.<\/p>\n

Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are both unavailable.<\/p>\n

Liverpool in the transfer market<\/h2>\n

Arne Slot said that Liverpool are currently looking to dip into the market ahead of Monday\u2019s transfer deadline at 7pm<\/a>.<\/p>\n
