Canada Horror: 10 Killed in Tumbler Ridge School Shooting, Nation in Shock

Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia — Canada is in mourning after a deadly school shooting in the remote town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, left 10 people dead and more than two dozen injured, marking one of the most tragic school-related attacks in the country’s modern history.

Authorities confirmed that the violence erupted shortly after midday at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, a small institution serving fewer than 200 students. Police say the attack also extended to a nearby home believed to be linked to the incident.

Multiple Fatalities, Suspect Dead
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that six victims were killed inside the school, while one person died en route to the hospital. Officers later discovered two additional victims dead at a nearby residence.
The suspected shooter, identified as an adult female, was found dead inside the school. Investigators believe she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police emphasized that there is no further danger to the public.

Dozens Injured, Critical Patients Airlifted
At least 25 people were treated for injuries, with two in critical condition airlifted to larger hospitals outside the region. Emergency crews from surrounding communities rushed to assist as helicopters and ambulances transported victims.

Students and teachers reportedly locked down classrooms as heavily armed police secured the campus and carried out a room-by-room search.

Leaders Express Grief
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described the shooting as a “heartbreaking and senseless act of violence,” offering condolences to families and pledging federal support.

British Columbia Premier David Eby said the province is “devastated” and praised first responders for their swift actions.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community,” Eby said.

Small Town, Massive Tragedy
With a population of just over 2,000 residents, Tumbler Ridge is a close-knit town where many residents know one another personally. Local officials confirmed that schools will remain closed, and grief counselors have been deployed to support traumatized students and families.

Mayor Darryl Krakowka called the incident “a nightmare for any community.”

“This tragedy has shaken our town to its core,” he said

Investigation Continues
The RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or the shooter, and the motive remains unknown.
The shooting has sparked renewed debate across Canada about school safety and gun violence, issues that have become increasingly prominent following rare but devastating incidents.
